Middleburgh Central School Technology Department Devastated by Hurricane Irene

09/16/11 – The MCS Technology Department is sad to announce that our technology labs were completely devastated from the floods that came with Hurricane Irene on August 28, 2011.  Mr. Gray and Mr. Dickerson have worked so hard to build and maintain the program, and more than 5 feet of water washed it all away in a matter of hours.  The room was also covered with a thick sludge, which got into everything.  Although we were able to save a number of our machines, we sustained over $200,000 in damages.  Many volunteers, staff and students have worked every day since the flood to clean and remove the debris from the rooms.  We want to thank all who helped us, we couldn’t have done it without you!!

If you are interested in volunteering, or giving a donation to help us replace equipment, please contact Scott Gray at scott.gray@middleburgcsd.org

We have also registered at SEARS.com for some of the smaller items we are missing.  You can click this link SEARS REGISTRY and view the registry.

Here are some pictures of the devastation…

CAD/CAM class to complete School Scale Model Project

9/5/08

Students in Mr. Gray's NEW CAD/CAM class will be putting the finishing touches on the scale model of the school that was started last spring.  The students will be using the TechnoCNC machine to cut pieces that will be used in the construction of the detailed model.  The model, which measures more than 8 feet long, will be a recreation of the front elevation of the school, and has detail down to every last brick.  The model will be completed for the anniversary celebration of the school on Columbus Day weekend 2009, and displayed permanently in the Gym Lobby

Tecno-CNC

12/08/08

The MCS Technology Department was able to purchase a NEW Techno-CNC router for the CADLAB.  The machine is capable of cutting woods, plastics and light metals up to 5 inches thick on a 30" X 24" work table.  Students will be able to use AutoCAD or Solidworks software to generate drawings of a part.  The drawings are then imported into the machine's Mastercam software and a toolpath is generated.  The machine follows the toolpath and cuts the parts.  Scott Mckellar is the first student who will be using the machine to cut out a guitar he is building out of maple.  Check back soon for pictures, video, and updates of Scott cutting the guitar on the machine.

CADLAB Renovations

11/21/08

Students in the Architecture and Construction class have just completed the finishing details on the newly renovated CADLAB.  The lab which is now capable of holding a class of 16 students, has 8 new Lenovo computers, and four new LCD flat panel displays. The students in the class painted the walls and desks, built a bookshelf, and installed drop ceiling under the gaping holes left by the last building project.  The classroom was first used Monday after Thanksgiving break, and is used 6 periods a day by the high school and middle school students. It is an overdue and welcome addition to the technology department.
